The Time Keeper
DOR-In the next several chapters Dor and Alli are now living outside of the village on their own. Dor’s parents occasionally visit them but Alli becomes very upset and misses her children. One day, an elderly couple comes to see Dor and Alli. The elderly couple have red spots all over them and Dor warns Alli to stay away from them because they might have some sort of illness. Alli doesn't listen to Dor and hugs the elderly woman. After a while, Alli develops a serious cough and the sam red spots the elderly couple had. Her condition worsens rapidly and Dor wants to get her help but can't leave her for a long amount of time. The next morning Dor isn't able to wake up Alli and he runs all the way back to Nim’s castle and climbs all the way to the top to ask the gods for help. sarah- Sarah is anxious and time is moving very slowly for her. Her mom tries to start a conversation with her but it is clear that Sarah wants nothing to do with her. This leads me to believe that they have a very rocky relationship and that Sarah's mom tries to relate with Sarah, but Sarah won't accept it. Sarah finally gets ready and then receives an important text message from her date. victor- Victor is trying to make the most of his time and continues to keep himself busy to keep the thought of death away. He calls offices located on the West Coast and asks for research. He tells them to send him files on immortality, and decides to keep this from Grace. This reveals to us that Victor doesn't want to die and is looking for ways to preserve his life. He decides not to tell Grace, because he figures that he is the only one who truly believes that there are other options for him. QUOTE- “Alli nodded and closed her eyes. She did not see Dor blink away his tears.”
This quote shows significance to what is happening in the book, because it shows that Alli’s time is coming and Dor is running out of options to try and save her. Dor does not want to see his wife suffer and is trying to make things easier for her. It is clear that Alli’s condition is crumbling and she is very sick. Dor wants to stay strong for her, but knows that there is very little left he can do. Dor wants to try and get help for Alli but he is afraid that if he leaves her for an extended amount of time she will die. Dor is trying his best to be his rock for his wife, but it is obvious that this is very difficult for him.

Dor- In the first seven chapters it is revealed that Dor has a very special gift, and is something that no one on Earth has ever done before. Counting and keeping track of time. Dor also gets older and marries his childhood best friend Alli. He grows in knowledge and continues to keep track of time. He even creates something called a sundial which he uses to keep track of time in the day. Then something unusual happens to him. A fly that was near him turns into a portal and out comes a man dressed in a white robe. This experience shocked Dor and he never told anyone about it. One day, Dor is showing his Nim, who is now a king, his sundial and Nim is fascinated by it. Nim asks Dor to come back to his castle and create more of them for him but Dor declines. Nim tells Dor that he must leave the village or his workers will force him to come to the castle so Dor makes the decision to leave his children with his parents in the village and flee with Alli. Sarah- Sarah Lemon is a teenage girl who is getting ready for a date with a boy she really likes. Sarah wishes she had more time to get ready and becomes frustrated when she struggles to find something to wear. This shows us that Sarah may be self-conscious because she critiques parts of her body like her arms while she is getting ready. We also learn that Sarah's parents are divorced and she lives with her mom. victor- Victor is a man who is in his eighties and is in a doctor's office receiving very upsetting news. His doctor tells him that with his tumors and kidneys failing he does not have much time left to live. When Victor arrives at his house there is an electric wheelchair waiting for him, but he refuses to use it. Victor has a wife named Grace who does her best to support him during this time, and it is clear that Victor does not want his time to come. quote- “And on this early page of man’s story, one different child can change the world. Which is why God is watching him.” This quote holds a lot of significance to the first seven chapters of the book. We learn that Dor has a special gift instilled in him and that is the ability to count and keep track of time. He is not like anyone else and his mind goes into a deeper depth than most people's. God is watching over Dor because what he can do will eventually change the way the world works. Dor will make a huge impact on the world because one day they will be able to see the world the way he does. |
